We went to my husband's hometown to remove snow from their ancestral house. The roadside temperature board indicated that the temperature was 0 degree. It was very cold. The ground was blanketed with snow.
The man in the picture is my husband. It took my husband about 3 hours to remove all of the snow from the roof and those surrounding the house.
There was "Tondo" near my house. "Tondo" is a Japanese word for "Bonfire" made from bamboos heaped on the field. It is an old Japanese custom(festival) that takes place every January(once a year.) The heap of bamboo was then burned. After the bamboo has burned out. People put the mochi into the fire and then eat them afterwards. It is believed to give people good health the whole year round.
